In this final post we will look at verse 11 and see how the fruit of righteousness glorifies God.
Philippians 1:11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God.
I love how Paul concludes this prayer and this opening paragraph with a doxology. God gets glory and praise when the fruit of righteousness is real in our lives. Because it’s not about us. Our spiritual growth and experiencing the fruit of righteousness, and doing the good works God created us to do, are not so that we can pad our “spiritual resume.” It’s supposed to make Jesus look good.
Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
Yes, our good works are seen by others, but we are not noticed. We don’t seek to become more like Jesus because it looks good on Instagram. There will be times when it won’t. We seek to become more like Jesus because it displays his greatness.
Isaiah 43:21 The people I formed for myself will declare my praise.
From the beginning to the end our lives, we are made to display the magnificence of God. This means we make him visible, revealing as much as is humanly possible, how attractive and wonderful he is. We pray to God that God would be glorified through our lives.
So let’s take Paul’s prayer and pray it for each other.
For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever. Amen. 1
